A Competitor Benchmark Measures You and Three Rivals on One Ruler
For the owner who suspects accessibility could be an edge and would rather measure their position than guess at it. Four sites, matched pages, the same 55 rules, and the evidence behind every result on all four.
What We Keep Finding
Every owner quietly wonders where they stand. Speed you can look up. Search rankings you can look up. Accessibility almost nobody measures, so almost everybody guesses. And the spread is real. In an annual sweep of one million home pages, 95.9% carried failures a machine could detect on its own, at an average of 56.1 errors per page. You sit somewhere in that spread right now, and so does every competitor you would name.
That number only counts what a machine can see, which is the smaller half, and it is the half your rivals' developers have most likely already run. The benchmark measures the other one. Same matched pages, same 55 Level A and AA rules, one ruler laid across all four sites, with a professional blind screen-reader user on the journeys that carry the money. Where you lead, where you trail, and on exactly which rules.
What it is not is a league table you can publish. We hand out no score, because the standard defines no score, and a number nobody can show the method for has no business sitting next to somebody else's company name. What you get instead is findings, rule by rule, with the screenshot behind each one. That is the version you can act on, and it is the version that survives anybody checking it.
There is one comparison worth making that most owners never think of. If a rival publishes an accessibility statement, or wears a badge, that is a claim in public about their own pages. A claim can be tested against evidence, and a claim that does not survive its own home page is a sharper finding than any score.
What We Check
- Test matched pages across your site and three competitors you pick
- Run all four against the same WCAG 2.2 Level A and AA rules, in the same order
- Put a blind screen-reader user on the same journey on every one of the four
- Screenshot the evidence behind every result, yours and theirs alike
- Check any accessibility statement or badge a rival publishes against what their pages actually do
- Rank the fixes that would move you past whoever is ahead of you fastest
What You Get
All four sites get the two passes that decide a comparison. An expert review against the same 55 rules, and a professional blind screen-reader user on the same journeys, in the same order, by the same people. Your own site gets the automated sweep on top of that, because yours is the one site of the four you have authorized us to point a tool at.
What lands is one document with four columns. Every finding carries its screenshot, its rule, and the page it came from, and the closing section is the short list of fixes that would move you up the order. No score, no grade, no badge, because none of those three would mean anything and one of them we refuse to sell.
The Honest Limit
Two honest limits here, and the second one is about what happens next. First, the three competitor sites get read from the public side only. We create no accounts, place no orders, and go nowhere a visitor's browser would not go, so anything behind their sign-in stays untested rather than guessed at. The comparison stays fair because all four sites get measured on the same kind of pages. Second, this is a document for your own decisions rather than a press release. Your report is yours to use internally and to hand to your developers, and the one thing our terms do not allow is republishing it as marketing.
What It Costs
A benchmark is quoted rather than packaged, because four sites do not fit inside a price built for one. Tell us your site, the three you want it measured against, and the journey you care about most, and a fixed number comes back by email. Set before we look, as always, so a rival turning out to be worse than you hoped does not change your invoice.
