ADA tax credit calculator

US small businesses can claim back 50% of what they spend on accessibility (between $250 and $10,250 a year, up to $5,000) through the Disabled Access Credit. Most owners have never heard of it. Two numbers below tell you whether you qualify and what an audit really costs you after the credit.

Gross receipts, before expenses.

30 or fewer also qualifies, whatever the revenue.

What you would spend on accessibility this year

Enter your revenue or your employee count and the math appears here. Either one inside the limit is enough on its own, so you do not need both, and exactly $1 million or exactly 30 still counts.

What it checks

  • Whether your business is eligible

The US Disabled Access Credit has a size test on both revenue and headcount, and most small businesses meet it.

  • What the credit is worth

It covers half of qualifying spend above the floor, up to the statutory ceiling, which is a meaningful share of a small audit.

  • Which costs qualify

Removing barriers to access. Whether web work counts is unsettled, because the statute names no digital expenditure, so treat accessibility audit costs as costs that may qualify and ask your accountant.

What it cannot tell you

  • This is an estimate, not tax advice. Your accountant signs the return, and they are the one who should confirm it.
  • It covers the US federal credit only. Other jurisdictions have their own reliefs, and some have none.
  • Eligibility rules and the thresholds change. Check the current IRS guidance before relying on a number from here.

Where to go next

How the credit works

The Disabled Access Credit is federal (IRC section 44), claimed with IRS Form 8826 on your return. You qualify if last year's gross receipts were $1 million or less, or you had 30 or fewer full-time employees. Spending that makes your business usable by people with disabilities counts, and accessibility audit costs may qualify. It resets every tax year, so an audit this year and fixes next year can each earn the credit. Confirm your case with your accountant.

What that means for an audit

For an eligible business, the $499 Rapid Audit works out near $375 after the credit, and the $1,499 Standard near $875. The fixes your team makes afterward can count too, on the same form at the same 50%.
