Wix Accessibility Audit: What the Editor Can and Cannot Fix

For the Wix owner who built their own site and wants a straight answer about which barriers they can fix in the editor this afternoon.

What We Keep Finding

Wix sites live inside the platform's own rendering, and that cuts both ways. Wix has shipped real accessibility tooling, and a careful owner can do a lot in the editor, so alt text, heading order, focus-visible styles, contrast. But some behaviors sit below the editor's reach, and no amount of clicking changes them.

The most useful thing to know is that Wix publishes exactly where its own free checker stops, and the list is longer than most owners expect. The Wizard does scan your Stores and Blog pages and the Bookings calendar, which surprises people. What it does not scan is your CMS content, external apps, your own code, password-protected pages, the side cart, and a named set of Wix apps that includes Site Search, Gift Cards, Pricing Plans and Reviews. Checkout is on that list by name. It also runs in your site's primary language only, so a second language added for another market is unscanned.

That checkout line is the one to sit with for a second. Under the standard, a purchase is a process, and every page in it has to conform before any one of them counts. So the free tool is silent on the exact part of a Wix store that decides the answer for the whole purchase. And if you sell into the EU with a second language, the tool cannot see half your obligations either.

One thing we would rather say than hide, because it is about us as much as about Wix. Wix documents its automatic reading order as designed with NVDA and VoiceOver in mind, and JAWS is not named. JAWS is the most-used primary screen reader at 40.5% of users surveyed. We run the same two screen readers Wix optimized for. So if that choice left something behind for JAWS users, neither Wix's own testing nor ours would currently find it. Tell us at scope confirmation if your audience runs JAWS, because that changes what we set up.

What We Check

  • Test your pages with a screen reader as visitors get them, not as the editor shows them
  • Check everything editor-fixable, so alt text, headings, contrast, links
  • Verify menus, lightboxes, and galleries by keyboard
  • Test any Wix forms, bookings, and checkout end to end, which the free wizard skips entirely
  • Check a second language if you have one, since the wizard only sees your first
  • Split the report, so your editor fixes versus platform behavior

What You Get

Every service on this site runs the same three-pass engine: an automated scan, an expert review of all 55 WCAG 2.2 A and AA rules, and a hands-on session with a professional blind screen-reader user. You get one report with every finding screenshotted, ranked by user impact, and linked to its fix. Your team fixes, we verify: the re-audit is half price within 3 months.

The format is not a mystery either. Read the sample report before you spend anything.

The Honest Limit

One honest limit. On a closed platform some findings have no owner-side fix, and we will not invent one. You will know exactly which items those are, so your effort goes where it can actually win. Worth separating two things that get conflated, though. What Wix's own tool declines to scan and what you personally cannot change are different lists, and the second one is shorter than people assume.

What It Costs

Rapid Audit: $499, up to 10 pages you pick, report in 5 business days. Standard Audit: $1,499, up to 25 pages in 10 business days. Flat rates, no discovery calls, and a real blind screen-reader user on every engagement. Pick your pages. We bring the humans.
